Don't let the name fool you. The Volkswagen Cross Coupe concept isn't a two-door model. Rather, it's a four-door, plug-in hybrid crossover that features a diesel powerplant. We know, we know, this isn't the kind of combination that's actively marketed... well, ever. But it's one that we here at Heritage Volkswagen and Subaru certainly hope takes center stage of future auto shows.

After all, it's not every day…

Based on a previous concept from a few years ago, the Volkswagen electric taxi is run by a 115 horsepower (hp) electric motor powered by a lithium-ion battery pack. Volkswagen claims the concept has a range of about 180 miles, which trumps the Leaf by nearly double. Plus, it can get an 80 percent charge in…

Volkswagen Striving For 170 MPG

Striving for high miles per gallon is in no way a new trend. Volkswagen designed a concept car that could go 100 kilometers on 1 liter of fuel in 2002, which is the equivalent of about 235 mpg. In 2010, Volkswagen is showing the second generation of their 1 liter concept, the L1. The German auto maker intends to have it in production by 2013.

Using a light and aerodynamic body design, along with diesel-electric parallel hybrid power train, the new L1 requires a max of 1.38 liters of diesel to cover 100 kilometers, that equals 170 miles to…
